Seven Strange Preachers
Matthew 11:1-9
INTRODUCTION: Note that Christ did not just profess to be the Messiah, He proved it (Jn. 14:10-11). He proved it by ministering to people in the power of God. He showed that God had sent Him to demonstrate two things:
That God is (exists) and that He is sovereign. He is above and beyond all, and He has the power to override the laws of nature.
That God loves man and has provided a way for man to be saved and to live forever.
Every time Jesus ministered and healed a person, He demonstrated both things: the sovereign power and the great love of God.
I. NOAH’S DOVE PREACHED THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD.
Gen. 8:1—”And God remembered Noah!”
Gen. 8:11—”And the dove returned with an olive leaf in its mouth.”
Preachers today should preach the faithfulness of God. Lam. 3:23, “Great is thy faithfulness.”
2. ELIJAH’S RAVENS PREACHED THAT GOD WOULD SUPPLY OUR NEED.
1 Kings 17:4—”Go to the brook for I have commanded the ravens to feed those there.”
Phil. 4:19—”My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Preachers today should preach that God cares and will supply every need of His children.
3. BALAAM’S DONKEY PREACHED REBUKE.
Num. 22:28—”And the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey.”
Titus 2:15—”And rebuke with all authority.”
Great fear would come over our congregations if preachers today would rebuke openly those who need it.
4. THE ROOSTER PREACHED REPENTANCE.
Matt. 26:74, 75—”And immediately the cock crew and Simon Peter remembered the word of the lord, and went out and wept bitterly.”
Luke 13:3—”Jesus cried, ‘Repent or perish.’ ”
Rev. 2:5—”Remember from which thou art fallen and repent.”
5. THE RICH MAN’S DOGS PREACHED COMPASSION.
Luke 16:21—”Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.”
Jesus said, “When the good Samaritan saw him that he had compassion upon him.” Luke 10:33
6. HEROD’S WORMS PREACHED JUDGEMENT.
Acts 12:23—”And he was eaten of worms.”
Gal. 6:7—”Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Acts 17:31—”In as much as He hath appointed a day when He will judge the world by Christ Jesus.”
7. THE ANGEL OF REVELATION STANDING ON THE LAND AND THE SEA.
Rev. 10:6—”And sware time should be no longer.”
Time is running out and today is the only promised time for salvation. “Now is the accepted time.” “Behold today is the day of salvation.”
CONCLUSION:
John thought I announced the coming of the Messiah I was faithful and now I am sitting in the prison. In your life when you go thru struggles look to Jesus and what He done for you on the cross will help you to overcome the struggle.
