Is it Right or Wrong
But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
Romans 14:23 (NKJV)
INTRODUCTION: Many asks this question, “Is it right to go to the show? or Should I go to dances? or—I could go on and on. Here are some principles taught in the Word of God to help you see and know what is right or wrong.
As far as the weak brother is concerned, it is wrong for him to eat anything about which he has conscientious scruples. His eating is not an act of faith; that is, he has a bad conscience about it. And it is a sin to violate one’s conscience.
It is true that a person’s conscience is not an infallible guide; it must be educated by the word of God. But, writes Merrill Unger, “Paul lays down the law that a man should follow his conscience, even though it be weak; otherwise moral personality would be destroyed.”
CAN YOU DO IT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD?
1 Corinthians 10:31; 6:19, 20. Will God get glory out of it? If not, it’s wrong.
IS IT A STUMBLING BLOCK TO OTHERS?
1 Corinthians 8:9; Romans 14:13, 21. If it is, it’s wrong.
DOES IT HAVE THE APPEARANCE OF EVIL?
1 Thessalonians 5:22. If it does, it’s wrong.
CAN YOU DO IT WHEN YOU REMEMBER THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT DWELLS IN YOU?
1 Corinthians 6:19, 20. If not, it’s wrong.
CAN YOU DO IT IN THE NAME OF THE Lord JESUS CHRIST AND GIVE GOD THANKS FOR IT?
Colossians 3:17. If not, it’s wrong.
IS IT A WEIGHT?
Hebrews 12:1. If it is, it’s wrong.
WHEN JESUS COMES AGAIN, WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE FOUND DOING IT?
1 John 2:28; 1 John 3:2. If not, it’s wrong.
Twice in the Book of Judges we read “Every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6; 21:25). May God help you to be like young King Hezekiah: “He did that which was right in the sight of the Lord” (2 Kings 18:3).
Conclusion:
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Prov. 14:12).
