The Call of Life

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

INTRODUCTION: This was Moses’ farewell address to the Children of Israel. The people were called on to choose between life and good on the one hand, and death and evil on the other—life for obedience, but death for disobedience. Moses strongly pleaded with them to choose life and blessing.

Is this a difficult decision to make?  Today the choice is between eternal life and eternal death, salvation by the grace of God or condemnation by the righteousness of God. The only sensible decision is to choose life.

“He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” John 3:36 (NKJV).

Beware of Pitfalls and obey God! Remember your past blessings! Remember the past defeats!

Dying words are always solemn and meaningful
John Knox: “Live in Christ, die in Christ, and the flesh need not fear death”
Pres. McKinley: ”Nearer My God To Thee!”
Pres. Wilson: ”Lead Kindly Light!”
Moody: ”Earth Recedes, Heaven is opening!”
Wesley: ”God is with us!”
Spurgeon: ”Jesus died for me!”
Winston Churchill: “I’m bored with it all”
Frank Sinatra: “I’m losing”
Albert Einstein: “I am at the mercy of fate and have no control over it”

CONCLUSION:
The call to us is direct and forceful: we must love and obey the LORD. We who live today are without defense, totally without excuse. For God has not only given us the Written Word but also the Living Word. The Written Word is the Holy Bible, the Scriptures that have been written down for us to obey. The Living Word is the Lord Jesus Christ, the greatest witness to the truth that could ever be conceived by the mind of man. Jesus Christ actually lived out the Written Word of God.

A decision has to be made. The choice is ours. We choose either life or death, either blessings or curses. The appeal of God’s Holy Word is this: Choose life! Choose life so that you and your children will live full and victorious lives over all the trials, temptations, and enemies of this world.

keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21 (NKJV)
