BIBLE STUDY & SERMON OUTLINES

The Preacher and His Purpose

I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also. The Just Live by Faith For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Romans 1:14-16 (NKJV)

Romans. 10:8-21

INTRODUCTION: What is a GOD-CALLED preacher? The word debtor (opheiletes) means to owe, to be obligated, to be bound by duty. Two ideas are being expressed by Paul. He was a “debtor” because Christ had done so much for him (saved him) and Christ had called him to preach (given him a task to do).

HE IS A SEER because of God. “I have made thee a WATCHMAN.” Ezekiel. 3:17
Seer: “One who sees. One who foresees events; a prophet”.

HE IS A SAYER FOR GOD. (Ezekiel. 3:17-19)
He is God’s MOUTH-PIECE. Ambassador. Representative.
He is God’s MESSENGER. (JONAH)

HE IS A SERVANT OF GOD.
“A Bondslave”
“Paul a SERVANT of Jesus Christ”
“Philemon our…… fellowlaborer”

THIS MAKES A PREACHER A:
DISTURBER. (EARLY CHURCH)
PERSUADER. “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we PERSUADE men”
DELIVERER. (Moses, Egyptian bondage)

WHAT DOES HE SEE:
He sees the PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
He sees SALVATION, DAMNATION AND REPROBATION

WHAT DOES HE SAY:
Now WHAT HE SEES HELPS AND MOVES HIM TO SAY:
He sayeth “THUS SAYETH THE LORD”
He PROCLAIMS, “SALVATION THROUGH CHRIST!”
He PREACHES “DAMNATION WITHOUT CHRIST”

HOW DOES HE SERVE:
What he SEES and KNOWS MOVES HIM TO SERVE
He serves UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE SAVIOUR.
THE CONTROL OF THE SPIRIT
THE CORRECTION OF THE SCRIPTURE
THE COMPASSION OF THE SOVEREIGN (Saviour)

THE RESULTS OF THE PREACHER AND HIS PREACHING:
Sinners are PARDONED! Acts 2:41; 4:4.

CONCLUSION:
Paul sensed a deep indebtedness to share the glorious news of salvation with the world. The answer to eternal life is now known and must be proclaimed to the whole world. To keep the message to oneself is the most inexcusable and criminal act in all of human history. The glorious news that death has been conquered and that man can now live eternally must be proclaimed. We who know the wonderful news are indebted to get the news out to the world.

Ministers are coworkers with God. They actually have the great privilege of working together with God. What is the work that they do with God? The minister who works with God does exactly what Scripture says: he “beseeches,” that is, urges, begs, and pleads with men to receive the wonderful grace of God. What is that grace? It is the glorious truth that God has provided salvation through Christ and proclaimed that salvation through Christ.
